Gold's Gym Northwest

Exert. Endure. Sweat. Recover. Repeat.

That's precisely what this Integra Telecom customer has in mind for your next visit to one of their locations.

Welcome to Gold's Gym Northwest, a partnership that operates the eastside Seattle Gold's locations in Bothell, Issaquah, and Redmond. In 1989, John Hamilton, Gold's NW owner and president, was recruited to be the general manager of the Kirkland location. Instead, Hamilton decided to buy into the partnership and over the next 20 years expanded the eastside operation into 3 new gyms with over 22,000 members.

As Dana Milkie, vice president of operations, explains, "Gyms have gone through an evolution. The early generation of fitness centers, with only weights and cardio, appealed to a narrow range of customers. But recently, Gold's Gyms have led the trend to be more multipurpose and family-friendly."

It's clear they've done their homework. Gold's operations are open 364 days a year, nearly 24 hours a day at most locations. And they serve a broad range of fitness consumers with amenities like exercise studios, basketball and racquetball courts, swimming pools, kid's clubs, and a wealth of individual personal and small group training and group exercise classes.

Milkie says, "Our members come in all shapes, sizes, and ages. We have the activities, education, and individualized training designed to improve any level of fitness and health."

Introduced to Integra Telecom by a Gold's member in 2005, Gold's Gym Northwest was initially impressed by Integra's reputation in the business community for telephone and Internet service, and they saw an opportunity to consolidate locations and the list of vendors used to run the operation.

The Gold's Gym Northwest group now uses Integra fractional T-1 services to connect the eastside gyms' IP telephony systems together. The network has improved Gold's ability to respond to member's needs by phone and Internet.

"Communication reliability and uptime are critical to our gyms' ability to retain existing customers and attract new members." As Milkie shares, "By keeping our overhead low and service reliability high, Integra's really delivered for us."
