For some children, it's an after-school refuge to get some homework done. For others, it's a shelter from gang activity. And for many kids, it may be the only place they get a nutritious meal or spend time with a caring mentor.

Whatever the need, over 30,000 children each year have a safe, stable, and positive haven in one of the twelve Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix (BGCMP). For over 60 years, the BGCMP has been nurturing underserved children in grades kindergarten through high school to become responsible, self-sufficient adults.

"Our focus is to provide quality after-school programs, under the supervision of a professional staff, that supplement and enhance children's learning and nurturing environments," says Lariana Lesniak, BGCMP's Vice President of Resource Development.

The Boys & Girls Club emphasizes five core program areas that help youth develop a positive self-identity and form healthy relationships with others. They include education in the arts, character and leadership development, education and career development, health and life skills, and sports and recreation.

"If we can provide these educational competencies and values," says Lesniak, "kids can become responsible citizens and leaders who make meaningful contributions and lead successful lives."

Maximizing potential in young lives is just the kind of mission Integra Telecom is proud to support. "Since 2002, Integra Telecom has been a key partner in providing the technology required to fuel the engine supporting the Boys & Girls Clubs in this region," says Lesniak.

Providing coverage to the 12 clubs and additional office locations, Integra delivers a broad portfolio of communications services to the BGCMP-including point-to-point T-1s, dedicated Internet T-1 service, standard telephone lines at all clubs, and long distance service. In fact, the Internet service at the clubs are often the only way many of the youth can access and complete homework assignments.

Lesniak continues, "Integra has been great to work with and over the years has done a lot for us. When issues arise or new clubs come online, they are attentive to our needs and get us up and running quickly."
